Fabric Care Guide: Keeping Your Chiffon, Silk & Velvet Beautiful
Formal pieces are an investment, and with the right care they will look beautiful for many seasons. Here is our guide to looking after the fabrics in your Raylaan wardrobe.
Chiffon
- Dry clean embellished chiffon to protect the handwork.
- Steam on a low setting instead of ironing directly; if you must iron, use a pressing cloth.
- Store folded with tissue paper between layers so embellishments do not snag.
Silk
- Dry cleaning is recommended for all embroidered silk.
- Keep silk away from direct sunlight and perfume, which can mark the fabric.
- Iron on the reverse side on a low silk setting.
Velvet
- Always dry clean velvet.
- Never iron velvet directly. Steam it from the inside, holding the steamer a little away from the fabric.
- Hang velvet shirts on padded hangers so the pile is not crushed.
Embellishments and storage
- Store outfits in breathable cotton garment bags, not plastic.
- Keep pieces in a cool, dry place and avoid hanging heavily embellished items for long periods.
- Spray perfume before dressing, not directly on the fabric.
